The University of Notre Dame community is mourning the passing of Elizabeth Clarke, a dedicated member of the Church and former Houston Echo Apprentice, whose death followed an extended illness. Her passing has brought deep sorrow to friends, classmates, faculty, and all who were touched by her life and ministry.
The news, shared on Ascension Thursday, has resonated strongly within the Notre Dame family, particularly among those connected to the Echo Program at the McGrath Institute for Church Life. Elizabeth’s journey at Notre Dame was marked by both academic excellence and a deep commitment to faith and service. As part of the Echo Program, she earned her Master of Arts in Theology while serving for two years at Mary Queen Parish, where she faithfully ministered and supported the parish community.
The Echo Program is known for preparing young leaders for professional ministry in the Church, and Elizabeth embodied that mission through her work, compassion, and devotion. Those who served alongside her remember her as thoughtful, sincere, and deeply grounded in her faith, bringing both intellect and heart to her ministry.
Following her time in the Echo Program, Elizabeth continued her theological formation by earning a Master of Divinity from the University of Notre Dame. She later served within the Office of the Vice President for the University, continuing her commitment to service within the institution that had shaped so much of her journey.

In response to her passing, the Echo community has come together in prayer and remembrance. A virtual rosary is scheduled for Friday, May 15, at 2:00 PM CDT, where members of the community will gather to pray for the repose of her soul and offer support to one another during this time of loss.
